Online WHMIS Training Course
The online WHMIS Training Course is offered by WorkSafe Saskatchewan, in association with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOH). The online WHMIS Training Course is for:
  • Employees in workplaces where chemical products are used.
  • Students and other workers preparing for a new job.
  • Managers, supervisors, human resources, and safety personnel involved in training or health and safety responsibilities.

    NOTE: All Saskatchewan employers are required to provide WHMIS training for their workers if they are exposed to, or likely to be exposed to, hazardous materials in the workplace.

    Benefits of online training
    Convenience is the main benefit of the online WHMIS Training Course; you will learn at your own pace from your own computer. Other benefits:
  • Course can begin any time during the year.
  • Course allows you to sign off and sign back in to continue your training if you're interrupted.
  • You have 90 days to complete the course from date of registration.

    Register for online training
    Go to the main log in page for the online WHMIS Training Course. You must pay a registration fee of $10/person using your credit card (payment received by CCOSH.)
    Access to the online WHMIS Training Course is also available from WorkSafe Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.

    What you'll learn
    The two-hour course contains interactive exercises and tests where you'll learn about:
  • WHMIS regulations
  • WHMIS roles & responsibilities
  • WHMIS classes & symbols
  • WHMIS labels
  • Safe use and handling of controlled products
  • Material safety data sheets (MSDS)

    After online training
    To pass, you must receive a mark of 80% or higher. Once you've passed, you'll receive your certificate of completion by email. After the online course, you are qualified to take your employer's workplace-specific training which identifies:
  • The dangers of specific materials and environment at your worksite.
  • The appropriate safety measures that must be taken at that site.

    Your employer is responsible for arranging this portion of WHMIS training.
