The Board
The Saskatchewan WCB is led by three Board members - a Chairperson (David Eberle), a worker representative (Walter Eberle) and an employer representative (Karen Smith) - appointed by the government of Saskatchewan. As an autonomous organization established by provincial legislation, the Board's primary responsibility is to workers and employers, who are the owners of the workers' compensation system.

The Board members focus on policy issues and strategic planning for the future direction of the workers' compensation system. The Board also serves as the final stage in the appeals process for compensation or assessment decisions made by the WCB. View monthly meeting highlights.

David Eberle, Board Chair
David Eberle assumed responsibility as Chair of the Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board on March 10, 2008. Eberle practiced law, with 20 years of experience in private practice in Humboldt and Melfort. He has also owned and operated a successful business in Humboldt since 1981.

Walter Eberle, Board Member
Walter Eberle was a staff representative at the Regina-based Grain Services Union for 22 years prior to his two-year appointment as the labour representative in December 2001. He has served two two-year terms and his current appointment runs until June 2012. Prior to coming to the WCB, he worked at SaskPower and the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and sat on a number of committees with the Canadian Labour Congress and Saskatchewan Federation of Labour. Mr. Eberle also served as a member of the 2001 Committee of Review. This review is required every four years by legislation to study and make recommendations for improvements to the workers' compensation system.

Karen Smith, Board Member
Karen Smith is the employer representative at the WCB. Her term runs until June 2012. Ms. Smith's professional background includes Director of Employee Benefit Plans for the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, from 1985-2004. She has been active in the business community, serving as the employer representative on the WCB EIP Advisory Committee and as a member of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Committee. She is also a past board member of the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency and of several community organizations. Ms. Smith is a former council member for the Village of Buena Vista, and a life member of the Provincial Association of Resort Communities of Saskatchewan.
