All employers operating in industries covered under Saskatchewan's legislation, who employ workers on a
regular, casual or contractual basis, must register and establish an account with the WCB. Exempted industries
and occupations are listed in the
Exclusion Regulations.

Out of Province Coverage
The WCB provides financial protection, medical treatment and rehabilitation services
to workers and their dependents in cases of injury or death arising out of, and in
the course of, employment. These services are funded by premiums collected from
employers by the WCB.
Register a Business
In addition to coverage, completing the Employer Registration Form ensures that your
new business is assessed in the proper industry classification. You can submit your
registration online or download a copy to be mailed or faxed to Revenue & Employer Accounts.
Maximum Insurable Earnings
Most businesses in Saskatchewan are automatically covered by the province's workers' compensation legislation. The current maximum insurable
earnings (also called maximum wage rate or maximum coverage) is $55,000 per year. For details on minimum coverage, contact the Revenue and Employer Accounts department.
For a list of industries and occupations not covered by the WCB, read
The Workers' Compensation Act's Exclusion Regulations.
Optional Coverage
Farmers, farm workers and the self-employed are not automatically covered by the WCB.
However, people in these groups can apply for coverage if they meet the definition of
a "worker" set out in the legislation. For example, all paid members of a farm family
and any farm workers are eligible for coverage.
A person operating a business as a proprietorship or partnership is eligible for optional
coverage if the person has done work for more than one customer within the past three
years. (See Independent Worker policy.)
The current maximum coverage is $55,000. For details on minimum coverage, contact the
Revenue and Employer Accounts department. The coverage chosen should reflect the person's
actual income.
Coverage For Contract Work
Clearances ensure that all businesses carry a fair share of assessment premiums. A
clearance is a letter from the WCB (1) stating that a contracted employer has a
WCB account and that it is paid; and (2) authorizing the principal employer to make
payment to the sub-contractor for work performed. View
Clearances for Contract Work brochure or
Term Clearances Fact Sheet.
Employers can also register for
Automatic Clearance Verification (ACV).
This system provides e-mail notification of any changes in the clearance status of any contractors and sub-contractors you list.
Out Of Province Coverage
In this era of global trade, joint ventures and strategic alliances, it is becoming more
common for Saskatchewan employers to send workers outside the province for assignments
or projects. To protect employers and workers in these situations, the WCB provides
limited out-of-province/country coverage for Saskatchewan workers.
Because WCB legislation applies only in the province, this extended coverage is on an
"insurance-only" basis. That means employers and workers do not have the usual protection
from expensive and time-consuming litigation. View policy or the
Coverage for
Saskatchewan Employers Operating out of Province/Country brochure.
Out-of-province employers that require employees to work in Saskatchewan on an occasional
basis may be subject to The Workers' Compensation Act, 1979 of Saskatchewan. View the
policy or the
Coverage for Out of Province Employers Operating in Saskatchewan brochure.
