As treatment progresses, you are encouraged to keep the employer advised directly or via the worker of any changes to restrictions
resulting from the injury or the expected date of recovery (health related details need not be communicated). If the employer has a Return to Work Program, the worker may give you a form
to complete or you can use a
Return to Work Information Slip or just write a note.
Where time loss occurs, confirmation of temporary restrictions is required by the WCB. Complete an Initial Report or Progress Report.
Reporting Requirements
Progress reports are required as specified in the Standards of Care for each discipline. You will receive a form specific to
your area of specialty in your accreditation package.
Copies of special reports - diagnostic, operative, etc. - that provide the WCB with relevant information, and that save the attending practitioner
from preparing a separate report, should always be forwarded to the WCB along with progress reports.
Release of Medical Information
Under legislation, you do not require a signed release from an injured worker in order to provide medical information to the WCB. Medical
records are necessary for WCB staff to process claims and appeals. The WCB may provide copies of reports appropriate to other health care
providers to assist in obtaining the best possible assessments and treatments for injured workers.
You should advise injured workers that their medical records may be made available to their employers or other if their claims
are appealed.
