On average, over 9,000 young Saskatchewan workers between the ages of 15 and 24 are hurt and another 5 die in a workplace accident each year.
The one common thing about all these injuries and deaths is that they are preventable.
WorkSafe Saskatchewan is trying to raise awareness about on the job safety by hosting a Safety Video Contest for high-school students (Grades 9-12).
WorkSafe Saskatchewan wants students as part of a team or by themselves to create a video about workplace health and safety, which includes injury prevention.
To enter, students must send their original video (which is 5 minutes or less) and application form to the WCB by February 19, 2010. If their video is one of the
top three selected, the student and his/her school will each receive a cash prize.
Winning entries will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held during the 2010 Compensation Institute in Regina. Winners will have their winning entry posted
on
www.worksafesask.ca and
www.wcbsask.com.
