duration of disability

Refers to the approximate time required to return the worker to pre-accident or modified work. It does not denote how long the worker should be away from work or when they should absolutely return to work.

sprain

A sprain is an injury to the ligaments (bands of tough fibrous tissue) that bind bones together at a joint. Sprains result from overstretching of ligaments, usually due to twisting of a joint.

strain

A strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon (fibrous attachment of a muscle to a bone). Strains result from overstretching or overuse of a muscle.
