Safe Worker and Safe Employer Awards Presented
Today marks the start of the 19th Annual Compensation Institute, hosted by the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB).
Every year since 1997, the WCB has hosted this unique event free of charge for the public and safety professionals around the province. To date, the WCB is still the only jurisdiction nationally to offer the two-day event to provide information to WCB customers on claims management, employer services and the prevention and management of workplace injuries.
The WCB draws on feedback from customers to provide information on topics and issues that are important to them.
“It’s important for us to provide practical information that is useful for workers and employers so we can first understand their needs and they can learn about some of our policies and procedures. We want to help provide all the tools necessary to achieve and maintain injury-free workplaces,” said Peter Federko, WCB CEO. “This event is a highlight for us every year. We look forward to meeting with our customers so that we can improve our services to Saskatchewan workers and employers.”
Session highlights of the two-day event include:
- Safe Worker/Safe Employer award ceremony
- Asbestos Exposure: What is it and what should we do?
- WorkSafe Campaign – Understanding behaviour change
- Ergonomics: Why do workers get injured?
- Incident investigations: What is a logic tree?
- Psychosocial factors for disability
Compensation Institute is a free, two-day event offered annually. It alternates between Regina and Saskatoon. The public is invited to attend. This year, the WCB expects more than 375 people to participate.
