BC Keynote Speaker addresses combustible dust incidents

Today marks the second day of the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board’stwo-day annual Compensation Institute. The conference’s keynote speaker Mr. Dale Walker, Director of the Industry and Labour Services Division, WorkSafe BC will share lessons learned from the two 2012 saw mill tragedies in Northern BC that injured 42 and claimed the lives of 4 workers. Walker will discuss details and preventative measures that resulted from these two combustible dust incidents.

“Each year the Compensation Institute is an important learning experience for participants and for WCB staff. It provides an excellent opportunity for two-way conversations so we can discuss ways to improve our services to Saskatchewan workers and employers,” says Peter Federko, WCB CEO. “Each year without fail, we take insightful feedback from attendees and at the same time offer steps and methods on how to improve processes at WCB. Above all, we want to provide practical ways for workers and employers to maintain injury-free workplaces.”

Compensation Institute is a free, two-day event offered annually. It alternates between Regina and Saskatoon. The public is invited to attend and this year, more than 375 participate.
