WCB event addresses cannabis, mental health and injury prevention

22nd annual Compensation Institute starts today

Saskatoon, SK – As our workplaces constantly evolve, Saskatchewan workers and employers are faced with new health and safety challenges. In an effort to help keep workplaces safe, the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) is working to provide resources for workers and employers. The WCB’s 22nd annual health and safety event, Compensation Institute, starts today at TCU Place in Saskatoon. More than 585 people will attend over the course of two days.

“Every workplace in our province is dealing with new complications. Workers and employers are striving to adapt to these emerging issues,” said Peter Federko, CEO of the WCB. “This is why it’s critical to focus on current topics pertinent to our labour force. Compensation Institute focuses on safety, prevention, restoring abilities and learning from and educating workers and employers on our compensation system.”

The event features several world class guest speakers who will address current workplace health and safety issues. As well, WCB staff will be on hand to share in our afternoon interactive sessions about our compensation system. This is a time for staff, workers and employers to learn from each other and improve our system processes related to WCB claims management, prevention, and employer services.

All our conference topics are determined by attendee feedback.

Today’s featured presentations include:

  • Marijuana in the workplace
  • Mental health in the workplace
  • Why safe companies fail
  • Total health approach for workplaces linking prevention to return to work
