Description

Operational Details
Ready-mix is also referred to in the trade as transit mix operations. It includes mixing concrete in a large batching plant. The process is automated and only requires one operator to oversee its operation. The bags of cement or bulk cement to be used are conveyed to the batch plant from a warehouse type facility or storage area, often by a forklift or front end loader.

Once mixed, the wet concrete product or cement is augured into a truck mounted drum, that rotates on its axis, to stop the product from hardening. The cement is then delivered to the customer.

At the customer’s work site or individual’s residence, the driver assists in the unloading, using a truck mounted conveyor or scoop that works on gravitational pull. The cement is poured into wheel barrows and hauled away by the customer’s crew. The driver is able to stop the flow of the concrete by shutting off the pump that removes the cement from the drum. If any cement is left over once the job is completed the driver must dump it in a landfill or some other approved area. The truck is then thoroughly washed and returned to the batch plant.
