The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) operates under The Workers’ Compensation Act, 2013 (the Act), together with The Workers’ Compensation General Regulations, 1985 (Regulations) and The Workers’ Compensation Miscellaneous Regulations (Miscellaneous Regulations).
The Act: The Workers’ Compensation Act, 2013 establishes the WCB’s ability to manage a compensation system for workplace injuries on behalf of both workers and employers.
Regulations: The Workers’ Compensation General Regulations, 1985 oversee the management of a compensation system on behalf of workers and employers.
Miscellaneous Regulations: All industries and occupations that are excluded from the Act, and therefore do not pay premiums to the WCB, are listed in The Workers’ Compensation Miscellaneous Regulations. Some industries that are excluded under the Act may apply for voluntary coverage.
The Workers’ Compensation Act, 2013 gives the WCB the ability to interpret and carry out the intentions of the legislature within the context of the Act.
- Policies are approved by the board members and form the basis of decisions made or actions performed under the Act.
- Procedures are approved by the chief executive officer. Procedures support policies and provide specific steps to follow for day-to-day tasks or work needed to carry out policy.
