Description

Operational Details
Hostels are cheap, affordable accommodation, usually with spartan surroundings, and mostly used by students under the age of 25. They come from across Canada, United States, Europe, Asia, etc. Hostels often have communal bathrooms. Sleeping accommodation includes bunk beds or single cots. Most hostels can accommodate between 10-25 travellers. A disadvantage of a hostel to other accommodations is the early curfew. During the day there is a lockout and rooms are not available at that time. Some also have house wardens who provide security for the travellers.

Hostels provide sheets, blankets and pillows and there are cooking facilities which often must be shared with others. There is some lockable storage area where sleeping bags and back packs may be stored.

Hostels may be run with some volunteer staff. Most are affiliated with the International Hostelling movement. Some hostels may not have any staff, just a facility that is self-regulated by its occupants, basically an honour system.

Generally, the accommodation is for an overnight stay, or 2-3 days at most.
