Description

Operational Details
Carpet and upholstery cleaners operate machines to clean carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture on customer’s premises or in carpet or upholstery cleaning establishments. Workers use commercial vacuums and shampooing equipment to run over the surface of the items to be cleaned and dry the surface with blowers, or it can be left to dry naturally.

Dyeing and bleaching of materials is part of this industry and is a service offered to customers who wish to have the material colours altered or modified. Bleaching may also be undertaken in cleaning floors that are not carpeted. The bleaching process involves removing waxes, scuff marks and discolourations. Dyeing of rugs is not common, however, upholstery items can be dyed to restore the furniture to its original colouring, or to alter it to a more desirable colour.

This industry does not include stripping, waxing, or refinishing floors, or repairing wooden furniture.
