T4209 - Expediting, hot shot service

Operational Details
Expediters are involved in the movement of goods. They arrange for the shipment of goods in an accurate and expeditious manner. They do not buy, sell goods, or provide the actual transportation of the goods. Third party carriers are contracted to provide the transportation. Expediters are often contracted by construction or oil companies who require shipments to remote locations and are not inclined to provide the transportation service on their own.

Hot shot services are similar to courier or messenger services, with the exception the hot shot business delivers material and parts on an individual basis to worksites or remote locations. Construction companies and oil companies often use the service when a breakdown or emergency occurs and parts are required immediately.

Couriers normally do not have a need for off-road vehicles (4 x 4). They have scheduled or appointed times before they make deliveries. Hot shot services deal with one customer at a time. This is not the case with couriers or messenger services.
