Description

Operational Details
A pottery shop sells their own manufactured products, as well as those of others. Pottery can include full kitchenware sets, bowels, vases, mugs and cups, serving plates and clay ornaments.

These stores have a potter’s wheel. A predetermined amount of raw clay is placed on the wheel, and using water and a spinning action, the clay object is formed by using one’s hands or a potter’s stick. The object is then placed in a kiln to be baked and glazed.

Greenware, or ceramic products are formed by placing slip clay or liquid into a plaster of paris mold. The product is dried or kiln cured, under low heat. After curing the products are trimmed and sanded and then painted. The painting is usually set permanently by drying in the kiln.

Decorative glassware includes reproducing a design on pre-manufactured glass, or producing stained glass products. Stained glass artists cut, paint, fire and assemble pieces of stained glass that has been poured in liquid form into molds or channels of copper or lead and allowed to dry creating a solid pane of coloured glass. Some trimming may be necessary, and grinding may also be done. Some artists will also sandblast glass with sand to reproduce designs on windows or mirrors.
