Description

Operational Details
Harness shop operators sell remanufactured harness goods such as bridles, reins, traces, horse collars, saddles and other leather products used to fit out a horse, bull, goat or other livestock.

Harness and saddle shops may also custom build for their customers. The process begins with a pattern of the customer’s, or the store owner’s design. Leather is cut, and stitched on a heavy duty sewing machine that can single, double and multi-needle stitch. Fur or felt pelts can be attached for backing on harness or a saddle and it is stitched onto the leather pieces, A leather working design can also be cut into the saddle and harness, using leather working tools and stamps. Patterns are formed by continuous stamping of the product.

The harness or saddle is assembled using tacks, ties, sewn sections, and special glues or adhesives. The leather products are then polished and oiled and made ready for sale. Associated products sold includes metal bits for horses mouths, leather chaps for the rider, and leather gloves. Pre- manufactured products can also include earing apparel as well as cowboy boots, raincoats and hats.

Some medicinal products can also be sold over the counter. Videos and books on riding etc,. Are also stocked and sold. Rodeo, working, and urban cowboys purchase from these speciality stores.
