Description

Operational Details
Battery shops sell name brand batteries that only require installation and sell batteries they have repaired or reconditioned in their own shop. The dry cell batteries are tested and packaged. Lead storage, or alkaloid batteries have acid contents inserted into the casing.

Since batteries are now heat sealed they cannot be taken apart, for that reason the repair market has dropped off considerably. There is only one Canadian manufacturer of batteries left, Surette Battery in Nova Scotia.

Rebuilding now only refers to making minor repairs such as adding new battery acid, or repairing a damaged post.

Batteries in Canada are purchased out of the U.S. and Mexico.

Competitors are automotive, truck dealers and farm implement dealerships that sell their manufacturer’s in-house brand, plus any hardware store, department store, automotive, truck repair shop, or garage. However, these businesses sell batteries on an incidental basis only
