School bus operators enter into contracts with school boards/districts/divisions to transport students to and from school. School bus operators may also provide transportation to students and school staff members for field trips and other extra-curricular functions.

Employers in this industry often have several buses and operate their own repair facility for service and maintenance of their vehicles. The hiring of independent or owner operated buses is common; these operators are also classified in this subcode.

School bus operators may also provide repair and maintenance services for owner operated buses.

Schools and school divisions who own their own fleet of school buses would not obtain an additional classification for their buses as they are considered part of the overall operation of the school or school division/district.
