Description

Operational Details
Hotels are operated for the convenience of the travelling public, both commercial and private. They are usually large multi-story buildings with elevators. Hotels offer sleeping accommodation, bathing and shower facilities, convention and meeting rooms, swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, exercise equipment and other recreational facilities for their patrons.

Hotels may also operate a lounge, dining lounge and/or restaurant, tavern or cabaret. They may also lease this part of their operations out. When this is the case, the operators will qualify for their own accounts, outside of the hotel industry.

Hotel workers include hotel front desk clerks, room service workers, night watchmen, marketing representatives, hotel clerks, information clerks, night auditors, valet, maintenance workers, restaurant and tavern personnel, pool, sauna and hot tub cleaners, laundry workers, and chambermaid service.

Motels are generally one or two storey buildings that allow the patrons to drive into a compound, relatively near their accommodation. The baggage is usually taken a short distance from the car to the room. Accommodation includes bath and shower facilities, and larger motels may have a swimming pool, sauna and laundry facilities. They do not offer meals, alcoholic beverages, etc. Workers include front desk reception, chambermaid service, and laundry and maintenance workers.

Bed and breakfast operators are usually residences that rent out 2-3 rooms, accommodating up to 6 individuals. Bathroom facilities are usually shared, and breakfast is included in the room rental. Like hotels and motels, the bed and breakfast accommodations are registered and must conform to certain health and safety standards. Often they are run by a single family with the husband and wife or partners doing all of the work, including the rental, maintenance and cooking chores. These facilities are an alternative to the accommodation that is found in business or high traffic areas. It is meant more for families or those who want more economical and quiet accommodations.

Independent living facilities are not normally registered as accommodation facilities to the general public. However, they may include boarding houses or private home owners who rent out rooms, charging room and board.
