Appliance stores may vary in products sold, but in all cases they are household appliances, or machines. Included are stoves, washers and dryers, fridges, dish washing machines, etc. Radios and television sales may also be incidentally included. Usually repairs are covered by warranty. When products are returned to the store a replacement is given to the customer. The original is sent back to the manufacturer or sent out to a appliance repair shop.

Warehouse or stock employees off-load the appliances. They are stored in a warehouse facility, or in the back of the store, or on the floor. Salesmen sell, usually on commission, and the appliances are often delivered as part of the sales agreement. Often the receptionist also acts as the cashier, and the credit manager, may also be a sales person. Staff in smaller stores are required to take on more than one task, but in larger stores the activities may be functionalized with sales staff only selling , shippers/receivers, only handling the merchandise etc.

Appliance repair shops repair the general public’s appliances, as well as acting as a dealer for major appliance names. Much of their work, if an authorized dealer, can come from appliance stores that do not have a repair capability. Appliance repair shops will sell used and refurbished appliances as a supportive activity to their overall operations.

Saw and bit sharpening are often done by speciality shops that act as dealers for major brands of saws and bits. It may include Fostner, Delta, Milwaukee, Stihl, Husqavarna, McCullough, Senco etc.
Items sharpened includes: carbide saw blades, router bits, knives, planer knives, bandsaw blades, hedge and grass clippers, lawnmower blades etc.
